The building design incorporates a “gateway” to the courtyard and campus beyond. The street elevation utilizes a gentle curve to direct pedestrian flow to and through the gateway into the courtyard. This form is composed of organic materials such as natural sandstone and earth tone masonry giving the exterior an impression of solidity, permanence and academia befitting a campus structure. The entire interior was remodeled to improve customer flow especially during “rush” periods at the beginning and end of each semester. The gentle curve of the exterior was expressed inside at the checkout area; allowing room for temporary checkout counters and room for more students to wait during rush periods; a circular ceiling soffit displaying various athletic and other activities at UNLV.
