640 acres
Size:
Copper Basin Day Use Area is a 1 square mile (640 acres) community park and trailhead for Battle Mountain, Nevada residents as well as travelers on the I-80 corridor between Winnemucca and Elko. The architectural style is derived from historical mining infrastructure and utility buildings. The site design is an interpretation of local mining, Native American tribes, and the local flora and fauna. Located within the heart of the park is an interactive trailhead. The trailhead includes a large covered group shelter with a vertical structure similar to the iconic mining towers seen throughout Battle Mountain, vault toilets, bicycle racks, trash receptacles and interpretive kiosks. The park design includes three new trails including a local ecology walking trail, a mining interpretive walking trail, and a scenic overlook hiking trail. A new mountain bike single track trail is provided for novice riders. The mountain bike single track trail is placed on the portion of the site with 0-2% slope allowing even non-experienced riders to enjoy.
