Clark County School District, Von Tobel Middle School Replacement

Location:

Las Vegas, Nevada

150,850 SF

Size:

Von Tobel Middle School, targeted to serve 1,250 students, is a re-site of the Brinley Middle School prototype design.

The new 150,000 SF school will be constructed on an undeveloped site and will include sixth, seventh, and eighth grade learning centers along with centers for administration, resource materials, student activity, physical education, fine and performing arts, theater, arts and technology, and maintenance and operations.

Each of these requirements was addressed while providing access to daylight for every classroom and learning space. As a re-site of the middle school prototype, Von Tobel benefits from an educationally driven plan that organizes the academic core around flexible collaboration spaces. Breakout rooms, team areas, and a media center support small group instruction and project based learning.

A two way performance platform connects the multipurpose gym and theater to expand activity and event options. Campus planning supports a courtyard focused layout that encourages outdoor learning and clear circulation.

Durable, low maintenance materials and high performance strategies, including passive envelope measures, high efficiency MEP and lighting systems, on site photovoltaic arrays, and water saving measures, are integrated to reduce long term operating costs while supporting comfort, safety, and security through clear sightlines and controlled access points.
